We have completed Project 365 on January 15, 2013 and we are now in the process of editing and producing the documentary associated with that for outreach and education of the diabetes community. Follow our blog and connect with us on Facebook to stay up to date as we work towards completing this project and bringing you a finished product that changes the meaning of life with diabetes. The video above was the last clip we edited during the project–and we are no longer accepting contributions at this time. Our focus is on using what you have given us already to create something inspiring.
A determined type1 diabetic embarks on a year-long road trip to scale sheer cliffs and mountains across the US; he must overcome the challenges of traveling, managing, and re-imagining what it means to “get over diabetes”.
LivingVertical: Project 365 documents a year long journey into the wildest, steepest and most extreme terrain in North America–to conquer the unconquerable; overcoming diabetes through the simple act of climbing–every day, for one year. Diabetes will be my full-time job. The mountains will be my office.
It has been 13 years since my diagnosis with type 1 diabetes, a condition that as yet has no cure. Living with an incurable medical condition can feel like imprisonment where freedom becomes a dream–and you go to extremes to find it. Literally. I found my escape through venturing into the vertical world–pushing my limits and embracing the resulting physical and emotional challenges.
Diabetes is one of the fastest growing medical crises facing our nation. 25.8 million adults, children and teens have been diagnosed–that’s almost 10% of the population! What is MORE alarming is the fact that there are 79 MILLION Americans who are “Pre-Diabetic”. This means that they are on track to full blown diagnosis within the next several years and will rely on inspiration and empowerment to make the major lifestyle changes needed to adapt to this condition.
This film will show what can be achieved by those who have been diagnosed while empowering and inspiring a movement back towards simplicity and nature in pursuit of fitness–proactive steps that anyone, at any age can embrace.
